New Donut Shop Planned In Denison

DENISON, TX -- A business owner says he sees a sweet future and presented his plans for a new donut shop.

The shop would include a drive-through on Morton Street. It's next to an old abandoned school building, but the owner says he sees potential here after looking for a site for the past few years.

"I love this city and I come looking too many times now and I found a place I love it so I need to open a donut shop," says Sarik Pan, who owns a donut shop in Sulphur Springs.

Pan says he's ready to turn his current shop over to his son, and move here open a new one across from the old Central Ward School, and on Tuesday morning he brought his plan to the city.

"He presented his site plan and some photographs telling us what sort of improvements he would be doing to the building and gave us some information about the hours he would be open, the days, and what he would be serving," says planning commission member Debbie Magouirk.

"I have very good experience for almost 30 years to make the donut so I know how to make the people come in to eat the donut," says Pan.

Neighbor Charles Rister says his first job at age 12 was at a corner grocery store that used to be on the site. He got a city letter about the proposed shop.

"I was concerned the way his plan showed as far as the driveway, the drive-through, and how close it was gonna come to my fence line," says Rister.

Pan says he also owns this property right next to the shop and will make this area into a driveway where people can drive up in the morning to get their donuts and coffee.

"When we open we have the free coffee, when you buy donuts you get free coffee all you can drink, so I know how to bring the people to come in," Pan says.

City council members will decide on final approval at their meeting on Monday. Pan says it will take at least six months to fix up the building and open his donut shop. As for the old school, it is privately owned and also has a new owner.
