Love County Investigates Mysterious Animal Deaths

Authorities in Marietta are investigating the mysterious deaths of one horse and one dog. Now the EPA may join the investigation as well.

Sheriff Joe Russell said his investigators along with area fire departments went to the scene just west of Marietta off of Highway 32 Wednesday Evening. They found the horse and the dog along with another horse that looks very ill.

Early assumptions were that the animals could have been killed by fumes from a gas lea. But, testing showed no signs of any leaks from the nearby pipeline or the nearby well. They'll pick up the investigation again Thursday morning.

Sheriff Joe Russell said "The fire departments, they went back and checked the creek and we came up with nothing, so we've got some people coming out here tomorrow, and we're planning on coming back out here tomorrow and checking it out and see if we can find anything else."

The Sheriff adds that constant monitoring is done on the gas wells.  KTEN will follow up, we hope to know more Thursday.
