Lake Texoma Tested Again

Posted:

LAKE TEXOMA -- It seems that everywhere you go in Texoma someone is talking about the blue-green algae bloom on Lake Texoma.  Today the Army Corps of Engineers went and performed the long anticipated test on the lake waters to see just where we all stand, or hopefully swim, for this upcoming spring.

The Corps went out and tested 8 different locations along the lake today to find out just what the concentration of the algae was.  They took samples at around half a meter down, or just about two feet.  This testing session is a little different from those they have done in the past.  They are now doing the testing with the Grayson County Health Department, allowing them to have some samples tested for toxins beyond the Corps' capabilities.

The samples have been sent off to the University of Oklahoma to be tested, as well as to Texas Tech and another private firm.  The results should take about a week to come back, but with the cooler temperatures and inflow into the lake, Corps officials are optimistic that cell counts could be lower.

For now, the advisory still stands, but in one week it might be a completely different story.
