DURANT, OK -- Around 10am Wednesday firefighters received a call that the Nichols Dollar Saver in Durant might be on fire. Witnesses saw smoke rising from the roof, and called it in just to be safe. When firefighters arrived on the scene prepared to battle a blaze in the store, they were a little relieved, if not surprised, to find out it was just a meat smoker working a bit too hard.
It turns out a rack of ribs had fallen inside the smoker, and the grease on the bottom had started a small fire inside. The fire had of course created more smoke that it was supposed to, and probably ruined the aforementioned ribs, but never got out of control. Firefighters wrapped the scene up and the store was immediately opened and customers could hardly tell anything had happened. No one was hurt in this incident.
