GRAYSON CO. -- If you have yet to get a flu shot it is not too late to get one, or even a free one. The Grayson County Health Department received a $150,000 dollar grant in January and they intend to use to for education, and prevention. Top on their list? Flu, dehydration, pneumonia, and urinary tract infections. These illnesses can be severe, and even life threatening, but easily preventable with a vaccine and good health practices.
Hospitalizations that occur because of these illnesses are especially high in Grayson County, as opposed to other counties in Texas. In fact, it is nearly 50% higher in Grayson than in most, and the Health Department aims to lower that statistic.
They are offering free vaccines for those that qualify, and also education about how to further prevent these illnesses. At the moment they are also looking into home doctor visits for more rural citizens, but are unsure as of yet if it is possible.
