COLBERT, OK -- The entire student body was on hand at Colbert High School to recognize head coach Mike Lawless' latest achievement.
The two-time state champion has been named the National Federation of State High School Association's 2011 coach of the year for the state of Oklahoma.
He is no stranger to awards, in 2008 he was named an Allstate Fast Pitch Coach and the Region V Coach of the Year. Coach Lawless says this honor is the result of hard work and dedication from his athletes.
"As I've always believed, it's not about one year or one kid. We try to talk about being selfless and when you do those things great things happen and accolades happen, usually to the kids, but in this case it happens for me. So it's not anything that I've done in particular, but what the kids have done," Lawless said.
He and his girls will be back on the diamond this spring for slow pitch softball.
