PLAINVIEW, OK -- It's an honor the school is getting used to. This is the ninth year in a row plainview primary has been awarded the model school award and the whole school got together for a little celebration today.

Plainview teacher Cathy Bargess prompts her second grade class with adult-like words such as virtue and optimism. It's all part of a curriculum known as Great Expectations. Friday, the program came to honor Plainview Primary.

"We were awarded a model school status for the ninth year in a row. "

Great Expectations asks teachers and students to work differently.

"You see, this school doesn't make use of "rules." You can't do this, you can't do that- as a student,"

Great Expectations mentor Regina Farquhar explains how the program employs critical thinking skills.

"The students are taught to solve problems, rather than just feed back information that they've been given.

The curriculum can be a challenge for teachers and students, but principal Lisa Moore says they're up for the challenge.

"We have teachers who are dedicated. We have teachers who care. We have teachers who want to make a difference,"

Vocabulary and communication is a big deal for the program as well. Farquhar says confidence and articulation cultivates new leaders.

"We know students who come out of school and can speak with authority and can communicate not only do better in school, but better in the community."

With nine years at the top of the list, Plainview says they expect to keep Great expectations a part of the curriculum for some time.  The program is used in schools across Oklahoma, Texas and Missouri. Principal Moore says the success of the program is dependent on parents, not just teachers and students.
