Campaign Sign Controversy

Posted:

GRAYSON CO., TX -- There's a controversy over election signs, specifically signs put out by a candidate for Grayson County Sheriff.

Johnny Waldrip is a retired Texas Ranger, and long time Grayson County Commissioner who is now running for sheriff.

Seen in the above photo of Waldrip's campaign sign is an image that is the likeness of a Texas Ranger badge. On Tuesday, Waldrip has called a news conference to discuss what he says are  recent threats of legal action by the Grayson County District Attorney about that image.

KTEN tried to contact Waldrip and the media contact listed on the press release Monday, but our calls were not answered.  We did some digging though and found on the Texas Government Code for the Texas Rangers that using the likeness of the insignia without the Texas Rangers' director's authorization is considered a class "A" misdemeanor.
