LOCUST, TX -- Arrests have been made in an on going arson investigation in Grayson County. Brandon Haynes and Richard Wesley Shiver have been arrested.
The Grayson County Sheriffs Office made two arrests early Tuesday morning in an arson case from January 10th.
The fire happened in Locust, just North of Pottsboro. Witnesses on the scene told investigators they saw Brandon Haynes and Richard Wesley Shiver leaving the home minutes before it went up in flames. Coincidentally, one of the suspects, got into a fight with a neighbor just up the street the same night and investigators say it's completely unrelated to the arson incident.
"We then got a call of shots fired on Locust road just a half a mile from where the fire was. Apparently one of the suspects from the fire got into a fight with a homeowner about a half a mile away, the homeowner felt threatened enough that he actually pulled a gun and shot the arson suspect in the leg.", said Ricky Wheeler, Grayson County Sheriff's Office.
The suspect was rushed to Texoma Medical Center for treatment. He has been in surgery and rehabilitation for that injury since then.
"That's the reason for the late arrest now. We've been waiting for him to get better so he could be actually confined in the jail without receiving more medical attention in the jail." said Wheeler.
Both suspects face arson charges and could be facing burglary charges as well, since witnesses say they saw the men taking items from the home before it caught fire. One suspect will also be facing charges of assault for the unrelated incident the same night as the fire. The home in Locust was completely destroyed from the fire in January.
