SHERMAN,TX-- For those who love to ride,it's a love ,it's a passion and most of all it's a lifestyle.
Motorcycles are more popular than ever, and we've all seen orange county choppers, but here in Texoma we have our very own Back Alley Cycles, who not only work on Harley's but customize and build their own bikes.
The guys at Back Alley Cycles say most of the custom chopper builders in the area have gone out of business. Since they've been working on Harley's and custom choppers for about 8 years now, they've decided that in-between doing repairs they're going to take a stab at building their own custom bike.
" This is a motorcycle we're building ourself. We've got, that's our own design on the fenders and the tanks. We had the wheels and some of the art work done at a local powder coating facility here in Sherman." Says Billy a Back Alley Mechanic.
The work has been done by two of the mechanics in the shop.
"It's been a collaboration between Greg and Johnny here." Says Billy.
The guys working on the bike take a lot of pride in building a chopper from the ground up. Especially, since they are putting their own creative touches on the bike.
"Basically reputation, reputation and quality work, so that's what we do here. " Says Johnny, one of the mechanics helping build the bike.
"Me and Johnny did the paint on it, it's not actually paint, its just metal, marks in the metal with clear coating over it. It's got an S&S motor. It's got a six speed transmission. " Says Greg, the other mechanic working on the bike.
Greg says they're putting everything into the motorcycle that everyone in the shop would want. They want to make it a reliable, great ride, with a whole lot of attitude and custom touches. On top of that, they're just proud its an all Back Alley ride from the bolts to the fender.
"Everything here came from here." Billy told us, pointing to the bike and all the parts.
It'll take a few more months until they finish it up, but after putting this much work into the bike, it may be hard to give up.
"We're building it, we're probably all going to take turns riding it, (chuckles) and then it'll be for sale." Billy says.
So look out Texoma, the next custom bike you see revving its engine down the road, may just be a Back Alley Cycle made in Sherman, Texas.
