Candidates for Grayson County Sheriff Duke it Out in Debate

Posted:

GRAYSON COUNTY, TX--The four men running for Grayson county Sheriff are: TABC agent, Brent Adams," (I have) 27 years of Peace Officer experience come June." Said Adams.

Of course, the incumbent candidate, Sheriff Keith Gary, "I have a lifetime of law enforcement experience." Said Gary.

The third candidate is Deputy David Hawley, " I bring to you 31 and a half years of experience with the Sheriff's Office in Grayson County." Said Hawley.

Last but not least, Commissioner Johnny Waldrip, "I did a lot of undercover work working with the FBI."

All four candidates held their own Tuesday night where questions ranged from political affiliation ,to how they would manage the budget, what their qualifications were, and of course, what they would do to make the Sheriffs Office better.

Everyone had different answers to each of the questions and all the candidates had a lot to contribute. Although, the most heated exchanges came between former co-workers, Commissioner Waldrip and Sheriff Gary, both taking digs at each other.

"I'm willing to say this, that at any time I'm willing to sit down with Commissioners Court and see why we can't come up with more officers than we have now." Gary said, taking a dig at Waldrip's comment about getting more Deputies on the streets.

Waldrip earlier in the night had said this statement referring to Gary's lengthy claim as Sheriff, " I think we've been doing the same things for too long, the same thing for a long time, and I think it's time we look to a new vision and a new direction."

Those were just two of a few of the exchanges between the two taking little digs at each other. Other than the few little comments here and there, the debate was very civil, and everyone had a lot of points to make.

We will continue to get to know these candidates as the continue to debate and campaign. Elections, as of now are scheduled for April 3rd but are subject to change.

we will continue to hear from these four candidates in more debates and in their continued campaigning.
