SULPHUR, OK--Residents near the Arbuckle Dam along Goddard Road and the Guy Sandy parts of the park may see some smoke in the upcoming weeks. The Chickasaw National Recreation Area and supporting teams will begin a series of control burns.
Property owners will be notified of the work and advised of any special procedures they may need to take, such as turning off HVAC units.
The National Park Service hopes the fires will burn off excess eastern red cedar, which is a fire hazard in Oklahoma.
Park officials say the burns will reduce the threat of a wildfire in the future.
