BRYAN CO., OK-- Calera and Caddo, Okla. are two towns separated only separated by 16 miles of blacktop with Southeastern's Bloomer Sullivan Arena right smack in the middle. Both teams will face off in Saturday's Bryan County Tournament Championship.
Sixteen is a unique number, it's been 16-years since a boys' Calera team has taken the crown or been to the final for that matter.
The Bruins on the other hand are trying to win it for the third time in a row adding a bit of a target on their backs.
"It seems like every body seems to play good against us but we just got to go out there and play our game," Caddo senior guard Kolby Johnson said.
Growing up in the same county and playing in same conference many of these players know each other giving themselves a mutual respect. "Calera always has tough teams and they always play real hard especially against a team that may be ranked above them or something they'll bring all they have," added Johnson. "They've been to state a couple of times and I think this game will be really good," Calera senior guard Jerod Lambert said.
Both teams are in 2-A making more than just bragging rights on the line. Caddo will try to maintain their number six state ranking in this one.
While the 13 and 5 Bulldogs will try to be the first Bryan County Conference team to beat the Bruins in two years.
Calera head coach Justin Pierce understands Caddo's dominance but knows if they execute they could hoist the trophy.
"Caddo is definitely the best rebounding team that we've played so far. They're bigger than us at just about every spot and we're going to have to get a body on them, keep them off the boards and we're going to have to protect the basketball," Pierce said.
Calera and Caddo will tip at Bloomer Sullivan Arena Saturday night at 8.
