Scammers Accidentally Call Grayson County Constable

Posted:

WHITESBORO,TX -- A scammer has been targeting people in Whitesboro. They call from a blocked number, saying they're raising money for local Grayson county law enforcement. On Monday, that scammer called the wrong man.

Constable Todd Booher of Precinct 3, says when he got the call he started asking questions "Who do they help, do they have a website, do they have a call back number, those sorts of things? That's when I started asking those questions that he hung up the phone real quick. That's when I knew this was a scam. "

Constable Booher wanted to get the message out immediately about this scam. He knows how generous the Grayson county community is. This scammer is trying to manipulate people with a cause that is very near and dear to a lot of hearts, but is in no way associated with any legitimate fundraisers.

"My main concern is I want to make sure the people of Grayson county are taken care of, that they're not just going out and giving their money to somebody or to some organization that's not even a real organization. Especially, with the economy the way it is and as tight as money is. People are willing to help law enforcement and fire departments and other organizations like that because they have big hearts and are kind people." Say's Booher.

These are people he doesn't want getting taken advantage of.

So if you get one of these calls, ask a lot of questions and then report the caller to your local police department or the Grayson County Sheriff's Office.

The Constable also wants to remind people that law enforcement won't be calling you for money.

"Local law enforcement associations do not solicit over the phone or go door to door to ask for money."
