Blue Green Algae Scares Boaters Out of Water on Labor Day

LAKE TEXOMA--Labor Day at Lake Texoma was down in attendance this holiday.
After searching a few different marinas and camp sites, only one boat and one family fishing were spotted.

Many people who live in the area were driving around, running errands and exercising in the beautiful weather, but vacationers just weren't around.

"The most I've seen today are the people with the campers, I haven't seen a lot of boating, or boaters passing by today," Tracy Gilley said, Tackle Box Too Manager.

Boaters and fisherman scared away by either the algae or the high winds.  Even with the beautiful temperatures, wind made the water choppy and water spray almost unavoidable.

"I know I've had several people came in this morning who own sailboats and you know they said, it's just been a little too windy to get out on the water and sail," Gilley said.

Many people around the lake said they saw campers and people on their boats in marinas. They said it just had a dead feeling, especially, for being a holiday.

Thankfully, locals continued about their day-to-day activities, and businesses in the area were still optimistic about the cooler weather bringing more traffic in the coming months.

Vacationers on this summer holiday were definitely hard to find.
