State Troopers on Patrol for Drunk Drivers Over Holiday Weekend

Posted: Updated:

TEXOMA--State troopers on both sides of the Red River urge drivers to travel safe this New Years. Troopers say not wearing a seat belt is the leading cause of vehicle fatalities.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol will be out in full force from Friday evening until Saturday morning--looking for drivers under the influence.

DWI convictions start when a driver has a blood alcohol content of .08 or more.

"But we just ask that they get a designated driver," Scott Hampton said, OHP Trooper. "Someone completely sober to drive or sue the taxi service or something like that. It's definitely not worth their life or someone else's life to risk that."

OHP says there have been 108 fewer traffic deaths since Christmas this year compared to last year.
