Grayson County Endorses Route for Proposed Tollway

Posted: Updated:

GRAYSON COUNTY, TX -- Monday, Grayson County Commissioners endorsed a specific route that they would like to see the proposed tollway take in the future. Deeda Payton was at the meeting.

More than a dozen proposed alignments or paths have been presented to the county, but Monday the county voted in proxy. Their choice won't necessarily be the final route, but it will serve as public feedback.

Representatives from the firm hired by the Texas Department of Transportation to conduct several studies on the proposed tollway spoke to the commissioner's court Monday morning. They went over data they've collected over the past several months, specifically what feedback they've gotten from the public.

In the end, commissioners endorsed a path that would feed into highway 289. The route starts in Denison runs down highway 289, then continues just north of fm 902 before heading due south to fm 121. "It's a pretty big step. We're looking at completing our tollway study in may of next year, so it's a little in advance of where we were looking for that decision point to be made, but we are studying those alignments and it's useful to know what the communities thoughts are on the project," said Mike Garrison of Brown & Gay Engineers Inc.

The county also looked at a secondary route that would run parallel to highway 289 that will be developed as the population and traffic north from Dallas warrants such a buildout.

Nothing is set in stone at this point, the county just endorsed one of the proposed routes. TXDOT says they expect to get a recommendation from their consultants on which path the tollway should take in the next couple of months.
