Chickasaw Nation Unveils WIC Electronic Cards

Posted: Updated:

ARDMORE,OK--A high tech change could make getting benefits through Oklahoma's WIC program a little easier.

New online WIC cards were unveiled Monday morning in Ardmore.

Families who qualify will now  be able to check their balance and the card is easier to keep track of than traditional paper vouchers.

"Obviously it provides for a convenient and dignity in the shopping experience and it also helps out retailers in that they can get quicker payment, so it's a win-win for everyone," said Debra Whiteford, National Director of WIC.

"In the past you'd have a folder with papers and everything like that, and now you just use your card, just slide your card just like a debit or Visa card," said new card user Justin Davis.

Oklahoma is one of just a handful of states to switch from the WIC vouchers to the debit card.
