Gunter EDC Gets Government Grant

Posted:

GUNTER, TX --  One Texoma city looking to bring new businesses to town just got a big boost from the federal government.

The USDA Rural Development program presented the Gunter Economic Development Corporation with a check for $99,900.  The money comes at a critical time for growth in Gunter.
U.S. Rep. Ralph Hall said, "The proximity of Dallas and having the spillover and people coming here, you need these funds.  The way this amount was given to you, it's spread over a number of things you can do."  Gunter Mayor Cliff Gibbs added, "Hopefully what this will do is bring in some small businesses in the commercial and industrial side and further that tax base.  Then hopefully some of them will grow to be large tax contributors and just further our ability to grow really."  The Gunter Economic Development Corporation must award the loans within two years.
