Students Honored for Sculpture Work

Posted:

ARDMORE,OK--And it was a special day for some Ardmore students--sculptures they completed were honored and dedicated today.

Folks gathered in the courtyard area of Ardmore High School to show off two new granite sculptures.

Juniors Payton Stein and Treyon Grant completed the sculptures over several days last year.

Amazingly this was there first time working with the tough material.

Their teacher and mentor Jesus Morolas, famous for his own granite work, said he hopes today will inspire Ardmore students to become artists.

"I'm so charged up because we're able to do something in a high school in Ardmore that will be here forever," said Morolas.

It was a learning experience. I'd never done anything like it before so I started out just sawing, started to cut at it and saw like a little design forming," said Stein

Morolas says he will continue to mentor young artists at other area schools in the future.
