Time to Sign Up For Salvation Army's Holiday Programs

SHERMAN, TX -- It's hard to think about Christmas before Halloween, but now is the time to sign up for the Salvation Army's special Christmas projects whether as a volunteer or recipient. Deeda Payton explains.

This week, the Salvation Army on Texoma Parkway in Sherman is accepting applications. Organizers say their angel tree program is one of their biggest projects. Last year alone more than 1700 kids benefited from the program. "We see an awful lot of new people. They can't afford it. The times are so hard this year when you pull an angel off a tree, that child is going to get something that they would never have gotten any other way," said Gail Ulrich of the Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army is also looking for volunteers, not just for their Christmas Kettle Program, but to help with the angel trees, food drives and various other holiday activities. If you are interested in helping out, call 903-868-9602.
