Denison Celebrates Eisenhower's Birthday

DENISON, TX -- Thursday Denison Native and Former President, Dwight D. Eisenhower, would have turned 120 years old. Denison is celebrating his birthday in a big way this weekend.

Thursday morning, members of the Denison Veterans of Foreign Wars erected a flag outside eisenhower's birthplace in honor of the five star general's birthday. Dozens of local residents gathered to celebrate their hometown hero. "Mean there's only 43 cities in the U.S. being the hometown of the president that's kinda neat, it's real different. When it's a small community people knew his family," said Doug Coleman one of the organizer's of Ike's birthday celebrations.

Members of the community have organized a number of activities in honor of Ike's birthday this weekend. 

The events begin on October 14th, his birthday, and conclude on Sunday, October 17 with a parade.

October 16 & 17: WWII Battle Re-Enactment

700 Block of W. Main

October 16: "Ike the Cook" Luncheon and Cupcakes in the Park

11am-1pm for $4 a person.

2pm-4pm birthday cupcakes and cookies served at Heritage Park

October 17: Parade

2pm beginning at 700 Block of Main.
