Sherman Firefighters Learn Extrication

SHERMAN, TX -- Members of the Sherman Fire Department spent the day outside learning new ways to free someone who might be trapped after a car accident.

The team spent the morning in their annual vehicle extracation training. It's so the department can become more familiar with how to get victims out of cars or trucks if they become pinned during a crash. They say this is training that they use all the time, not just during major events. "We have a lot of accidents. We average probably one a shift, I mean, typically, so, the occurrence of these type of emergencies are pretty frequent. So, to be able to use this training is important, and it keeps everybody on edge and keeps our skills fresh," said Captain, Nathan Huffman.

Huffman says since the firefighters don't get a chance to sharpen their skills everyday that the course is a good refresher for all members of the team.
