Hot Potatoes Help Bryan County American Red Cross

Posted: Updated:

DURANT, OK--Durant church volunteers were handing out hot potatoes for lunch Thursday.

Faith Lutheran Church held a potato bake to benefit the Bryan County American Red Cross.

Hundreds of potatoes were baked and sold to benefit Oklahoma families seeking assistance from the Red Cross. The church has been doing this for four years.

"It starts days earlier where we wash the potatoes and different community facilities let us wash them at their area and then we wrap them and pick them up and pick up the supplies from different areas, and about 6:00 AM we started baking them," Sherri Scavo said, volunteer.

One volunteer says that on average they raise $3,000 a year.

Other organizations are also contributing matching funds to the Bryan County Red Cross.
