Hispanic Heritage Celebration Brings Color to Downtown Sherman

Posted: Updated:

SHERMAN, TX--It was the 13th Annual Hispanic Heritage celebration in downtown Sherman Saturday.

Authentic Hispanic foods and clothing lined the streets and attracted many passerby. Vendors provided authentic treats and crafts.

Many were wearing traditional dresses. Different dresses represented the heritage of various Hispanic countries.

There was also a contest for the Hispanic heritage queen, duchess, princess, and chiquita.

"It's kind of cool because it's like my heritage and like it makes me feel different, but like in a good way," Odi Gomez said.

"I miss my family. I miss my family," Brenda Wildrong said. "That's all I miss. I like this country."

"This is the independence for every single country that is world wide--Hispanic wise, whether you're Cuban, Puerto Rican, Salvadorian, Mexican, you know it's just a Hispanic celebration," Nancy Menjibar said.

Hundreds of people attended. A dance followed at the Sherman Municipal Ballroom Saturday night.

All proceeds raised go to the Hispanic Heritage Scholarship fund.
