Sherman, Pottsboro Ban K2

Posted: Updated:

GRAYSON COUNTY, TX -- K2 is now illegal in Pottsboro and Sherman. Tuesday night, both city councils banned the synthetic marijuana sold as aroma therapy and Denison may be next. Deeda Payton reports.

A couple of weeks ago, K2 made some Texoma teens extremely ill. These cases and others aided the city's decision to put a ban on its sale and possession. Both Sherman and Pottsboro's police chiefs say they wanted to be proactive to protect the community. "The big problem with this substance is there are a lot of unknown items in the package. It's not regulated, it's not tested, so buyer beware. You don't know what you're getting in that package and that can be really, really dangerous," said Sherman Police Chief, Tom Watt. "So basically the city of Pottsboro wanted to be proactive and try to prevent this from happening and hopefully other cities will get on board. I know Sherman did as well," said Pottsboro Police Chief, Brett Arterburn.

Denison Mayor, Robert Brady, says the city council will decide whether or not to ban K2 at their next meeting. Sherman Mayor, Bill Magers, says the city council wanted to be ahead of the curve because the Texas State Legislature is slated to ban the substance next session which is over a year away.
