Durant Firefighters Teach Parents About Child Safety Seats

Posted: Updated:

DURANT, OK -- When it comes to choosing and installing the right car seat for your child, it can get confusing. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says nine out of ten of the child safety seats are not installed properly. Deeda Payton reports.

To help parents out the Durant Fire Department welcomed families to come and ask questions about children's car seats. Officials were on-hand to show parents exactly what to do and how to install the seats correctly. "We look at everything and the seat itself may not fit the child and that's probably the biggest issue that we see," said Trooper Steve Nabors with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

"It's very helpful because it's been a long time. Five years for an infant so it helped out a lot," said mother of two, Nicole Antu of Coleman, OK.

The department even offered free car seats to families who needed an upgrade or a different style for their age or height.
