City of Hugo water back on

Posted: Updated:

Update: Water pumps are back on at Hugo's water plant, and residents are being asked to boil their water for the next 24 hours if they plan to drink or use it for any potable reason.

Earlier today, it was an emergency situation in Hugo, as a break at the water plant has left the city high and dry. City officials say the water tank was drawn dry and there was no pressure in town for most of Thursday. Those needing drinking water were asked to come to Hugo's Fire Station No. 1 on Jefferson Street, as the Red Cross and other organizations were bringing bottled water for the masses. Crews worked throughout the afternoon hours to pump water from the flooded plant, then fired up the pump equipment by 5 p.m. Hugo schools were called at 12:30 in the afternoon Thursday because of the water outage, but schools will resume as normal Friday.
