Damage Assessment:

  • Line of power poles down, some snapped at Loy Lake Road at Lasalle, near Popeye's
  • Radio antenna at Red Cross location off of FM 691 blew over onto power lines, causing some "sparking".
  • Sgt. Bruce Dawsey with Sherman PD reported his dept. is without power, as is most of downtown Sherman. Dawsey wanted to remind drivers that if you approach an intersection with flashing signals to treat it as a four way stop. Also, be mindful of construction zones around Sherman as the high winds have tossed many construction cones and signs onto the roads.
  • Lightning is reported to have struck a transformer and caught a tree and power line on fire, subsequently catching a yard on fire on Wood Terrace Drive in Denison.

Area hospitals have not reported any damage, and no traffic accidents have been reported as a result of the weather.
