Blood Drive Benefits Retired Sherman Police Officer

Posted: Updated:

SHERMAN, TX -- The Sherman Police Department rallied around one of their own Wednesday at a special blood drive. Deeda Payton reports live from the event.

The Texoma Regional Blood Center parked their bus right outside the police department. The drive was held for retired officer, Billy Stigger, who has congestive heart failure and is awaiting a heart transplant. Dozens of officers, friends and even strangers rolled up their sleeves to help out. "Well obviously giving blood is a great thing it helps a lot of people. There are a lot of people out there who need blood on a regular basis and Billy Stigger is a great guy," said Detective Rob Ballew. "You know, it's a situation that Bill is in that he needs this assistance and I'm just glad we could," said Detective Larry Atherton. The blood bank says they collected more than 75 pints of blood.

The next fundraiser for Billy Stigger will be September 24th at the Red River Firearms Shooting Competition in Sherman. Call 903-893-8449 for more information. All proceeds go to Billy Stigger for medical expenses.
