Sherman Keeps Property Tax Rate, Makes Water-Sewage Increase

Posted:

SHERMAN, TX--Water and sewage customers in the Sherman area may see a small rate increase, but they won't see a change in their property tax rate.

Sherman City Council approved to keep property taxes at 32 cents per $100, but because two big water and sewage customers will soon be leaving the Sherman area . . . MEMC and Folgers . . . the city has to increase the rates about 6 percent.

"The council working together with the staff this year has been able to put together a budget that we're able to continue providing the essential and core services to our city without raising the tax rate," Robby Hefton said, Sherman Assistant City Manager.

The water-sewer bill for the average family is about $50 dollars, which would mean roughly a 2 to 3 dollar increase for a monthly bill.
