Denison High School Hosts Fish Camp

Posted: Updated:

DENISON, TX--School starts in less than a month, and to make sure that incoming high school freshman are ready, Denison High School hosted a fish camp today.

Denison's Fish Camp was held to welcome and inform the new freshman class.

Faculty and staff anticipated 328 freshman would attend.

Adolescent issues in high school such as academics, peer pressure, relationships and alcohol were discussed.

Between sessions, freshmen had a few dance breaks.

"We like this to be their first experience at high school," Jamie Weems said, Denison High School science teacher. "We try to make it not scary for them at all, so they feel really comfortable here, and we figure if they're here just surrounded with their peers, and some of the great kids who are in student council at the high school, then they can feel more comfortable when they do start school."

The freshman also got their photo IDs and tours of the high school.
