Home Burglaries Are Up Across Texoma

Posted: Updated:

GRAYSON COUNTY, TX -- If you're planning a vacation you might want to take a few extra steps to protect your home and property while you're away. Home burglaries are up across Texoma. Deeda Payton reports.

Authorities blame it on the economy and the time of year, but whatever you blame it on, it translates to a lot of business for home security companies. Larry Hayley, owner of Personal Safety Products, says his security sales are up. "People are more conscientious than they ever have been. Security cameras and surveillance equipment are the big business right now because the economy and the way the things are going right now people are scared to leave their home."

Here are some safety tips for protecting your property:
Always lock up all windows and doors even if you are only going to be gone a short time.
Advertise deterrents like an alarm system with decals.
Don't tweet or facebook that you will be out of town.
Make sure your valuables aren't visible from the street.
