Church Displays 200 Flags for Servicemen and Women

DURANT, OK--This year, the Forth of July falls on a Sunday, and because of that, a Texoma church decided to tie together the national holiday with their services.

For the holiday weekend, 200 American flags are on the lawn of First Christian Church in Durant.

Pastor J.C. Mitchell says that this Sunday, services will be focused on American ideals, such as liberty and freedom, and will honor local police and fire officials.

"We have a good number of police officers who attend this church regularly and we always keep them in prayer but we thought since July 4th fell on a Sunday that we would name that," Mitchell said.

It took about three hours for volunteers to set up the flags.

Services will start a little after 10:30 Sunday at 301 N 3rd Ave Durant, OK. All servicemen and women are invited to attend.
