Texoma Rural Communities Learn How to Grab Public Dollars

Posted: Updated:

VAN ALSTYNE, TX--Bringing dollars to rural Texoma communities may be easier than you think. Federal and state money may already be waiting for towns in Texas to use.

The Van Alstyne Economic Development Corporation hosted a workshop for rural and economic development at Grayson County college Thursday. More than 50 city leaders from Texoma rural communities attended the seminar. Officials learned how to get public dollars to expand water and sewage systems as well as fund low-income housing.

"Maybe start them in the right direction of whether its a federal program that they need to be applying to or a state program or maybe its a private foundation, and we'll help them through that process," Allen Lambright said, area director of USDA's Rural Development. "Even if it's not a program that we offer, but we can provide the assistance, we're more than happy to help that rural community."

The US Department of Agriculture's program offers more than 40 grant and loan programs for rural development.
