WHITESBORO, TX -- New drivers will soon face new requirements in Texas. Starting Saturday, anyone enrolling in a driver education course will be required to complete an additional twenty hours of driving instruction including ten hours at night. Deeda Payton has the details.

If you are planning to take driver's ed, these new requirements affect you. Beginning May first, anyone enrolling in a driver education course whether taught in a classroom or in the home will be required to fulfill 34 hours total of driving instruction including ten hours of night-time instruction. "What we're trying to do is the department wants to prepare young drivers more to make them safer drivers," said State Trooper, Mark Tackett.

All of the hours behind the wheel must be in the presence of licensed driver who is at least 21 years of age and has been driving for a least a year themselves, and the supervising adult must sit in the passenger seat.
