Grayson Co. Red Cross Sale a Success

Posted: Updated:

SHERMAN, TEXAS--The 7th annual Grayson County Red Cross garage sale kicked off early this morning.  There was a line of 300 before the doors even opened.

The crowds were good news for the local charity after a steep decline in donations.  They say the money is imperative to the community.  "When the Red Cross doesn't get donations, we are forced to limit the service we provide the community.  We can only spend what we have," says Sharon Watson, Director of the Grayson County Red Cross.

This weekend the Red Cross closed up early after selling out of all their donated items.  The charity says they surpassed this year's goal of $20,000 by making $22,000.  The money will go into their disaster relief fund and help local victims when disaster strikes.

The Grayson County Red Cross estimates they spend around $500 per disaster victim.
