Denison City Council looks at event on old high school property

Posted:

The Denison City Council will meet Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in special called session to debate whether to allow a carnival on the old high school property on Main Street. You'll remember that after lengthy discussion and heated arguments, the city acquired the old high school building and eventually tore it down, citing aesthetics and safety for Denison residents. And over the past couple of years, the site along Main Street remained a vacant lot bringing about much speculation, including whether the city will build a new library or civic center there. The carnival would be held on the property October 1st and 2nd, in conjunction with the city's fall festival.
Also at Wednesday's meeting, the council will discuss calling the May municipal election for the city. The positions of Mayor Pro Tem Jim McClure and City Councilor Mike Baecht are up for grabs. Filing for those elections begins soon.
