Sophomore Brad Hambrick scored all 18 of his points in the second half on his 20th birthday to lead host Texas A&M University-Commerce to a 70-58 win over Cameron on Saturday afternoon at the Field House.
A&M-Commerce (13-4, 2-0 LSC North) had four players in double digits in the win. Following the eighth tie of the game at 44, the Lions went on a 13-0 run en route to the win. During the run, Hambrick scored five straight points to spark A&M-Commerce.
He was joined in double figures by Ronnie Morgan, who added 12 and Brian Singleton and Sammy Jackson each scored 10. Cameron (10-6, 0-2 LSC North) got a team-high 17 points from Milton Garner in the loss. He was joined in double figures by Nikola Vukadinovic, who had 13 on the strength of three 3 pointers.
The Aggies went into the halftime break with a 23-22 lead when Jamaar Burke put the visitors ahead with a jumper with 1:04 left in the first 20 minutes. The game remained close in the second half and was tied on three more occasions.
After a Cameron dunk, Morgan made one of two free throws on back-to-back trips down the floor for the Lions to put A&M-Commerce up 45-43 with 11:40 left.
Burke hit a free throw to cut the A&M-Commerce lead to one, 45-44, with 10:12 remaining. Next, a jumper by Singleton started a 13-0 run for the Lions.
The run built a double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest for the Lions, who made seven of eight field goals and held Cameron to just 3 of 16 shooting from the field to seal the win. Next up for A&M-Commerce is a contest against East Central on Wednesday at 8 pm at the Field House.
