Local Haiti Relief Efforts

DENISON, TX -- Relief efforts for the quake victims, kicking into high gear.  The Texoma Chapter of the American Red Cross is taking part.  KTEN's Chris Severy reports.

Since the earthquake hit, the American Red Cross has donated more than $10 million from its international relief fund, plus made every last item in its disaster relief warehouse in Panama available to Haiti.  At the Texoma Chapter of the American Red Cross in Denison, workers there are available to accept donations.  But here's the most important part, the most urgent need is for money.  Sharon Watson, Executive Director of the Texoma Chapter of the American Red Cross, said, "The biggest and best thing people can do even if it's just a few dollars, it's big dollars when combined with everybody else's, is to give money because this is a gigantic operation and things shipped to Haiti will have to be shipped in bulk, properly labeled and gotten to a distribution center."  To help, send a check to the American Red Cross at 2527 State Highway 691, Denison, TX 75020.  And make sure you write "Haitian Relief" on the memo line of your check.   You can also text the word HAITI to 90999.  When you do, $10 will be added to your cell phone bill.
