Durant Twin Cinema Will Not Close

DURANT, OK --  The Durant Twin Cinema is not closing.  The past two days we told you what Durant Mayor Jerry Tomlinson told us, that if a new movie theater comes to town, it would buy out the Durant Twin Cinema and shut it down.  But the owners say not so fast.  In fact, they were shocked to hear the news.  KTEN's Chris Severy reports.

The owners of the Durant Twin Cinema weren't just shocked, they were down right mad to hear city leaders say the new group was going to buy them out and shut them down.  Now, they want to set the record straight.  JD Wand said, "we heard about it from y'alls newscast the other day.  JD does what he needs to do to help out at the Durant Twin Cinema.  His dad owns the place and the bowling alley next door.  JD added, "My dad started this 15 1/2 years ago, the theaters, when it opened.  This is all he's ever worked for.  So, he was royally upset over it."  Royally upset because when our report first aired on Monday, that the City of Durant was considering using sales tax dollars to help bring a new multi-million dollar movie theater to town, and part of that deal meant shutting down the Durant Twin Cinema, that was the first Durant Twin Cinema heard about it.  JD said, "Nobody has come to us about buying us out or anything.  The city officials here in Durant, I don't know what they're up to."  We tried to get a hold of Durant Mayor Jerry Tomlinson today, to try and find out where he got his information about the future of Durant Twin Cinema, but our calls were not returned.
