House fire in downtown Sherman

Sherman firefighters battled a large house fire in the 600 block of Montgomery Street near downtown and the public library. Early reports from witnesses said they saw children running from the fire, but the homeowners told police they did not in fact see anyone running away from their home as it burned. Denison and Gunter firefighters were called to Sherman to help fill the stations vacated by Sherman as all crews responded to the scene. Within 20 minutes, flames were knocked down and an overhaul on the house was under way. The fire marshal has begun the investigation into the cause of the blaze. Nobody was injured.
