Prepare Pets for Frigid Temps

DENISON, TX --  Protecting your pets in this extreme cold weather is also important.  All dogs and cats should be brought indoors.

If you can't bring them inside your house, at least provide them with some kind of shelter, like inside a garage.  And make sure they have a blanket to sleep on to keep them from having to sleep on cold floors.  Dr. Billy Martindale of the Animal Hospital of Denison says, "I think shelter, food and water.  Those are the three biggies in taking care of our pets during this extreme cold weather."  A constant source of fresh water is important.  Some veterinarians also suggest feeding your pets about 30-percent more than usual.  The extra food helps them generate additional body heat.
