Aledo Wins 4A State Title

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Johnathan Gray rushed for 252 yards and four touchdowns to lead Aledo past Brenham 35-21 for the UIL Class 4A Division II state football championship Saturday.

Aledo is the same team that knocked out Denison in the State Semi-Finals last week. It marks the second year in a row that the Yellow Jackets were knocked out by the eventual state champion. Last season, Sulphur Springs went on to win it all after defeating Denison in the playoffs.

Gray had 32 carries, scoring on runs of 21, 25, 36 and 89 yards for the Bearcats who improved to 15-1, winning their second state championship and first since a 1998 Class 3A title.

Brenham finishes at 13-3 with their second runner-up finish in seven years.
