Red Cross Holds Christmas Open House

DENISON, TX -- The local Red Cross held their third annual open house this afternoon to thank all of it's volunteers and spread the word about what our Texoma Chapter does for local residents. Deeda Payton attended the event.

There were a lot of people at the lunch Thursday including commissioners, Red Cross volunteers and other city staff members.

The parking lot was full when I pulled in and inside everyone was gathered around a generous buffet of cookies, candies and cakes. They had soup and salad too.

The Red Cross has been holding their open houses since 2006 when they reopened following a fire. Organizers say it is to thank the community for their support and teach residents about their services. "So we're here to let people know that not only do we respond to disasters and house fires, but we teach CPR and first aid and we help military families." "We usually pick up one or two every year that we do this somebody that doesn't realize everything we're capable of doing."

Last year alone, the Texoma Chapter of Red Cross logged more than 14,000 volunteer hours. The Christmas open house and lunch was a thank you for all that hard work.

If you would like to volunteer or donate to the Red Cross you can call them at 903-465-1330.
