Sherman Man Found With $662,000 Of Suspected Drug Money

A press release on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, from the Sherman Police Department has stated that the Detroit Police Chief incorrectly identified the arrested man.  The man is from Houston, TX and has no association with Sherman, TX.

DETROIT (AP) - Police and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents have seized about $662,000 in suspected drug money after a tip on narcotics activity at a Detroit motel.

Police Chief Warren Evans tells reporters Tuesday that the money was neatly bundled and stuffed inside a red duffel bag, and believed to be part of "an interstate drug deal."

A man from Sherman, Texas, has been arrested and is awaiting drug possession charges. Evans says he is not a U.S. citizen.

Evans says police had the motel under surveillance about 12 hours when several people left about 9 p.m. Monday and struggled to lift the bag into a car. Police stopped and searched the car not far from the motel.

A small amount of cocaine and marijuana were found in the car.
