Air Show In Grayson County And Other Weekend Events

GRAYSON CO., TX -- A local family is using an event this weekend in Denison to raise funds for medical costs in anticipation of one woman's heart transplant.

Saturday's Fall Festival in Denison was a chance to get out, maybe get some riding experience. There was also some interesting shopping and plenty of chances for kids to get their faces painted.

But, the community event on Main Street was about more than all that for one local family.

KTEN told you about Denison resident, Raychel Williams. She was diagnosed with a rare heart condition during pregnancy nearly a year ago.

She has to be hooked up to electricity at all times to keep her heart going while she's waiting on a heart transplant.

She and her family had a booth at Saturday's Fall Fest to hold a raffle, raising money for her medical costs.

"It's really good to know that the community cares, and they're given so much support," says Raychel Williams. "It's helped tremendously."

If you didn't make it out there, you can still help Williams. There's a fund set up in her name at Landmark Bank. You can drop by any location.

Another popular event this weekend, the Grace Flight of America Air Show at North Texas Regional Airport.

People came from all over to see the best of the best of airplane performers.

With binoculars up, cameral out and heads turned to the skies, hundreds flocked to see twirling planes fly through the sky of Grayson County.

These pilots have showcased their talent across the country. And, some of them have had the opportunity to see it all, as their job takes them around the world.

Grayson County residents were lucky though, not to have to venture too far to see the talent.

"Little something extra to do today," says Carol Beale, who attended the event. "We have gorgeous weather. It's just a lot of fun."

Grace Flight of America helps people in need of free air transportation for medical and humanitarian purposes. It relies completely on volunteer pilots and donations.
