City of Sherman kicks off bulk trash pickup

Posted:

SHERMAN, TX -- Starting Oct 1st, the city of Sherman will start a new monthly bulk trash pick up program for any unwanted old household items.

As of now, they currently have their monthly shrub pickup program in place. On the same day as the shrub pick up, the bulk trash will also be picked up, but separately.

Director of Public Works, Jeff Miller, says Sherman is trying to make of disposing of large waste a little easier.

"Mattresses, furniture, water heaters, appliances, things that are just really big and bulky that you just can't get in your cart," Miller said.

The solid waste department superintendant, Aubrey Henderson helped think of the idea and says most people didn't have a lot of options before this.

"It didn't leave the citizens a whole lot of options, this way they have a better option of riding their stuff too," Henderson said.

Meanwhile, Sherman hopes this new program will not only help resident's dispose their waste, but also keep the streets of Sherman a little cleaner.
