Wilson N Jones Employees Get Flu Shots

Sherman, TX -- Healthcare workers at Wilson N Jones got their seasonal flu shots Tuesday. Deeda Payton spoke to some of the employees about the importance of getting vaccinated.

Nurses at Wilson N Jones gave seasonal flu shots to all hospital employees Tuesday afternoon. Employees say they have come to expect flu shot day in preparation for flu season, but this year it is being done as part of a massive disaster drill to test how fast an entire hospital can be vaccinated. A test which is especially important this year because of both the regular flu and H1N1. Wilson N Jones nurse, Heather Nunn, says "I think its extremely important because we're first contact with the patient, therefore, we don't take it home to our loved ones and other people in the hospital."

If an employee at Wilson N Jones does come down with the flu, they will not be able to return to work for seven days at the recommendation of the centers for disease control.

Nurses say they expect the H1N1 vaccine will arrive mid-October, but not all employees will be getting it. The H1N1 vaccines will arrive in batches and will go to the most at-risk employees first. For example, emergency room nurses will be vaccinated first.
