Flu Precautions: The Proper Way to Sneeze

GRAYSON COUNTY, TX---With all the hype about the flu and the H1N1 Virus, did you know there's a certain way you're supposed to sneeze and cough? Your kids might know more about it than you do! Michelle Gillespie got a lesson today, as did one NBC reporter who got called out on it in Washington, D.C. yesterday.

Over the years, the rules have changed and NBC reporter Chuck Todd learned that the hard way yesterday in front of the entire country.

A seemingly innocent moment made national attention Thursday night when U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius gave NBC reporter Chuck Todd a little lesson on the proper way to sneeze.

But who knew there was a proper way to sneeze?

"You need to sneeze into this tissue and as soon as you sneeze into the tissue, you have to get rid of it and drop it in the trash," says Grayson County Health Center Nurse Janice Furness.

No tissue handy?

"You need to cough into your arm like this, away from other people and then immediately use a hand sanitizer," says Furness.

No hand sanitizer? We got you covered.

"You need to wash with warm water inside your nail beds for 30 to 40 seconds or for kids, they can say the alphabet," says Furness.

A good lesson to remember this flu season.
